Images of logic board from a next-generation iPhone model have cropped up today. It sounds (and looks) great from the spy shots AppleLeaks’s received but we’re not sure if this would slot in for next generation device. However, Macrumors is reporting that the leaked part clearly pinpoints the existence of A5 chipset targeted at devices like iPhone 5 or cost effective iPhone 4S.

Assuming they’re legit, the major changes (in comparison with CDMA and GSM iPhone 4) we can see so far include a new, reorganized logic board with similar form factor but with a squeezed SIM-card slot and relocated chipset. The back side looks similar to the CDMA iPhone 4 logic board.

The most interesting part which is drawing attention is the large rectangular area on the logic board, which hints that it is designed for the rectangular A5 chip found in the iPad 2. Notably, iPhone 4 and original iPad runs on A4 chip which is square in shape. Research analysts and other sources have periodically claimed that next iteration would sport A5 chipset.

iPhone 5 is already rumored to contain both CDMA and GSM radios providing support to all major carrier in US like Sprint, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. The handset is likely to run on Qualcomm’s dual-mode GSM/CDMA Gobi wireless chipset to support both CDMA and GSM networks in a single device to lower down operational costs. The images, however, don’t reveal anything breathtaking, since the parts are unlabeled.

So far logic board suggests a relatively small, iterative update – but at least it will finally unify the processor between iPhone and iPad. What do you think?
