iPhone 5 will be getting metallic rear casing instead of reinforced glass used for the last model, reports Digitimes. The sources from upstream panel suppliers additionally claim that the iPhone 5′s display screen will be slightly larger than the current iPhone 4′s. No actual specification was given to back this up except that the iPhone 5 will adopt a 3.5- to 3.7-inch display panel.
Apple was reportedly having some issues with the glass back on the iPhone 4, which was proving to be less durable than expected. Thousands of users complained about the iPhone 4′s glass back scratching and even cracking. So, dropping glass back in favor of metal was quite obvious.
It’s not the first time a metal back and bigger screen have been predicted for the fifth-generation iPhone handset. Few months back, Japanese site Makotakara claimed that the iPhone 5 device will get aluminum back.
The upcoming iPhone will only have minor cosmetic changes compared to iPhone 4 and that the panel will still be less than 4-inch, probably 3.5- to 3.7-inch panel. The bezel of the panel could be decreased to create extra space and make the screen look larger, claimed sources.
Recent iPhone 5 case and schematic drawing leaks however suggests that Apple is actually planning a radical new design – thinner device, curved back, a larger edge-to-edge display, and an elongated home button. But, this is how iPhone 5 will look like.
Taiwanese publication Digitimes have a decent, if not stellar, record of revealing what will come in next-gen device. But the report debunks most of the design features, claimed independently by many Analysts and sources.
