Apple has instituted a block on all employee vacations during the second week of October (from October 9th through 12th and October 14th through 15th), signaling a possible iPhone 5 launch sometime during the timeframe, reports Apple Insider, citing sources familiar with the schedule.
Looking back in Apple’s traditional cycle, such ‘blackout’ has been reliable indicators of iPhone launches. The only time Apple schedules these kinds of mandatory work periods, apparently, is to accommodate the influx in sales and service traffic stemming from a new product launch. The workers are not allowed to take any leave during the time frame.
The report adds that final version of iOS 5 could be launched in-between October 9th-12th, and since Apple has informed AppleCare to expect sharp increase in support calls starting October 10th, the launch time seems to fit within that timeframe. This can also be corroborated by the fact that Twitter has already announced its own developer session in London on October 10th with a heavy focus on the iOS 5 Twitter integration.
October 14th -15th dates suggests that Apple may be preparing for retail launch for their next generation iPhones. The most solid evidence that support these dates so far is the WSJ report, which reported that iPhone 5 will launch on Sprint alongside Verizon Wireless, and AT&T in “mid-October”. WSJ is one of Apple’s preferred channels for staging an engineered leak to contain consumer and investor expectations. So, these dates cannot be denied completely.
Apple is anticipated to hold a media event on October 4th to announce iPhone 5, iOS 5 and iCloud. The company hasn’t sent official invitations yet, but may announce next week. The iPod media event will likely take place in San Francisco, the scene of many such Apple events.
