Apple may apparently schedule its traditional media event on Oct 4 at the company headquarters on Infinite Loop in Cupertino, California, to unveil next generation iPhone. Sources in a position to know told AllthingD that the company is indeed planning a special event at its Town Hall Auditorium to give the world its first official glimpse of an iPhone 5.

Since Oracle has booked the auditorium on Oct. 4 as part of its Oracle OpenWorld conference, the gathering is un-likely to be held at the Moscone Center or Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) in San Francisco, a space Apple often uses for media events like this.

Sources close to the company say the demonstration – currently scheduled for Tuesday October 4, a date first reported by AllThingsD – will be held at Apple’s campus in Cupertino, California.

In past, Apple has hosted various press events at its own base of operations to launch new products. But with 250 seating capacity, less than half the people that can be entertained at the Yerba Buena for the Arts, chances are slim that Apple will hold iPod-event at its headquarters.

With less than ten days to go before the end of that rumored timeframe and no invitations yet issued by Apple, it is appearing likely that the rumor is correct.

As for Apple’s product release plans for the media event, whenever it might take place, there is strong evidence for an iPhone 5, with claims of a high-speed A5 processor, 8MP camera, tapered back with larger display area. A cost-effective iPhone 4S is also expected, with some sources wondering if it could resemble with current iPhone 4 in addition to public launch for iOS 5 and iCloud.
