State-owned China Mobile with over 610 million subscriber base is getting closer to finally ink a deal with Apple, reports Wall Street Journal. The report further claims that Apple Executive Tim Cook indeed paid a low-profile visit to China Mobile’s headquarters in last month to materialize a deal and to make sure that upcoming iPhone models are compatible on their 4G TD-LTE air interface standard.

There is no word about when the company will offer iPhone on China Mobile network. Apparently, analysts believe that iPhone will be made available in next 12 months supporting their fourth-generation network called TD-LTE. It is highly likely that Apple might launch a customized handset (probably iPhone 5) that support China’s home-brewed TD-SCDMA standard.
The iPhone is likely to be offered through China Mobile in the next 12 months, analysts said. The timing partly depends on whether Apple decides to offer the device for the carrier’s homegrown technology standard, TD-SCDMA, or wait until the carrier rolls out a fourth-generation network called TD-LTE, which China Mobile has been testing in select cities.
The report further adds that till now, Apple has focused on its home-turf U.S. market, which generates 38% of the company’s $24.7 billion of revenue in the March quarter. With over 70% market share China Mobile could become a major potential partner for Apple and a major driver for multiplying its sales number. Despite the fact that only four Apple stores are located in the region, China is Apple’s fastest-growing region in terms of sales. Apple had already planned to open 25 stores in greater China.
