The Taiwanese publication DigiTimes is reporting that Apple key partner and Taiwan-based notebook maker Pegatron Technologies have landed a manufacturing orders for 10 million iPhone 5 units from Apple to become the second ODM (Original design manufacturer) of the smartphone. However, earlier report claimed 15M orders for iPhone 5 handsets.
In addition to this, the report re-iterates that next generation iPhone 5 handset will start shipping in September of 2011, according to sources from upstream component makers.

This deal could be a major win for Pegatron in the light of a human power since the company’s utilization rate dropped to 50% and gross margin dropped to 1.8% due to sluggish sales of CDMA iPhone 4. Pegatron is reportedly looking to forge a new partnership with Apple and eyeing to bag orders for iPad, MacBook Air and other Apple products to improve gross margins.
Speculation about the device’s release date has varied. While some foresee a October launch, others predict September launch. On the other hand one of the WSJ report claimed that Apple will launch two new iPhone handsets- one targeted at high-end consumers (iPhone 5 with thinner profile) and one intended for developing markets (may be iPhone 4S with 4GB capacity).
