Executives of China Mobile Ltd have made multiple low profile visits to meet Apple chief Steve Jobs to bring iPhone handset on their homegrown 3G TD-SCDMA network standard, report Reuters.
The report aligns nicely with WSJ report and a leaked photo posted earlier showing iPhone 4 prototype running on China Mobile’s network. Does that mean that China Mobile has finally inked a deal with Apple? If the report is true then it’s great news for Apple, as a partnership with China Mobile would greatly accelerate iPhone adoption.
This report has reignited speculations that Apple might offer the customized handset to the China’s mega mobile phone carrier with over 615 million subscribers next year. Reports further adds that without having an official sales agreement with Apple, 7.44 million iPhone handsets are already running on China Mobile network.
Few weeks back, Apple Executive Tim Cook visited China Mobile’s headquarters to materialize a deal and to make sure that the next generation iPhone models are compatible on their 4G TD-LTE network.
There is no word about when the company will offer iPhone on China Mobile network. Apparently, analysts believe that fourth generation TD-LTE network compatible iPhone will be made available in next 12 months.
If the deal materializes, it will provide Apple with access to the largest wireless carrier in the world, with over 615 million wireless subscribers or 70 percent of the total China wireless market. It is worth mentioning that China is Apple’s fastest-growing region in terms of sales.
[Update 1:] Earlier today, the chairman Wang Jianzhou confirmed that Apple’s Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook did visited China in June to offer the iPhone
