Apple has launched a crackdown against stores, in the Chinatown section of Queen, selling fake, counterfeit and illegal iPhone devices entering the domestic supply chain in the New York City with the goal of protecting their products and its identity, reports Reuters.

"Apple Story" in Flushing, Queens

The trademark infringement lawsuit was filed by Apple last month against two stores (Apple Story and Fun Zone) in New York City for selling counterfeit Apple products. But the documents with Brooklyn federal court were sealed until yesterday only to facilitate seizing knockoff products.

Apple has already captured unauthorized iPod, iPhone and iPad accessories sold by two stores following seizure warrant and preliminary injunction granted by the court to stop both stores from selling knockoff goods.

Apple Inc. is now demanding the names of its customers and suppliers. In its complaint, Apple is also demanding that the store with name ‘Apple Story’ MUST be enforced to change its name to avoid any confusion. But the federal court Judge Kiyo Matsumoto has yet to rule on that issue. A settlement between Apple and the stores’ owners is reported to be under negotiation.

Many stores offer legitimate Apple products but some have counterfeited iPhone, iPod touch and iPad gears, tainting the reputation of Apple in the area. Strict anti-counterfeiting measures, including stronger regulatory oversight and enforcement, stiffer penalties for counterfeiters are required to put kibosh on such unauthorized practice.
