Leaked iPhone Photo with A5 Chip is iPhone 4S, not iPhone 5

Macpost default placeholder

Few weeks back, spy shots of alleged iPhone 5 logic board appeared that clearly pinpointed the existence of A5 chip targeted at devices like iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S. It included a new, reorganized logic board with similar form factor but with a squeezed SIM-card slot and relocated chipset. The back side looks similar to the CDMA iPhone 4 logic board.

Few more images of partially assembled iPhone 5 have surfaced online showing similar logic board with A5 chipset in place and we have received this shot in our inbox. White frontal part of panel/LCD display shows similar form factor with that of iPhone 4 codename N94 with same circular home button. This means the leaked parts could be of iPhone 4S and not iPhone 5, as claimed by many sites (since they had the other site of the picture only). Many analyst are apparently calling the next model an “iPhone 4S” (and S obviously stands for speed) in a nod to the iPhone 3G-to-iPhone 3GS transitioned.

Rear camera cable clearly shows a 90 degree turn, which resembles with the part leaked earlier but was claimed to be of iPhone 5. It also shows same proximity light sensor leaked few days back.

Market analyst have already suggested that Apple will launch two new iPhone models in mid-October – iPhone 5 targeted at high-end consumers and iPhone 4S for developing markets. The low cost iPhone 4S will have cheaper components inside iPhone 4 enclosures. However, the iPhone 5 will be wider, taller, and thinner with a curved back

iPhone 5 is however, rumored to carry both CDMA and GSM radios providing support to all major carrier in US like Sprint, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. The handset is likely to run on Qualcomm’s dual-mode GSM/CDMA Gobi wireless chipset to support both CDMA and GSM networks in a single device.

So far partial assembled images suggest a relatively small, iterative update – but at least it will finally unify the processor between iPhone and iPad. Thanks Neil

Update: Pandaxtech appears to be the source for the iPhone 4S images. Here is another High resolution photo.
